Hakase Studio Terms of Use
Last updated: 6 November 2026
Tsumugi is made by Hakase Studio (ABN 47 526 390 530) (“we”, “us”, “our”).
These terms apply to every product we make, unless otherwise stated. Each product has a schedule at the end, with its own licence, price and refund terms. If a schedule and these terms disagree about a product, the schedule wins for that product.
When you install, buy or use one of our products, you accept these terms, the schedule for that product, the licence that comes with it, and our Privacy Policy. Our products are not free software.
1. Our rights and third-party components
- Our products, including their source code, documentation and licence systems, belong to us. They are protected by copyright. Every right not expressly granted to you is reserved. These terms do not transfer ownership to you.
- Some open-source components have their own licences. Those licences apply to those components, and they are listed in the notices shipped with each product.
- Our products are not made by, or affiliated with, Juju Adams or GameMaker (YoYo Games).
2. Your content
- Your stories, game files and other content belong to you. We do not claim any rights to them.
- You are responsible for what you publish or build using our products.
- We are not affiliated with, partnered with or sponsored by any game, game company or development studio, and we do not endorse any game made with our products, unless we say so in writing.
- You may say that your game was made with one of our products, for example in its credits. You must not say or suggest that we endorse, sponsor or are partnered with you or your game, or use our logos, without our written permission.
- We may ask you to remove a mention of us or our products from your game or its marketing. If we do, you must remove it from future versions and marketing within a reasonable time.
- Back up your work.
3. Using our products
- Do not use a product in breach of any law, including sanctions and export laws.
- Each schedule sets out any other limits on using that product.
4. Service and changes
- We may change, add or remove features from time to time. We will inform you by updating these terms or our website.
- We do not promise our services will always be available.
5. Warranties and liability
- Products are provided as described in their schedules. Consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law apply, and they cannot be excluded.
- Apart from those guarantees, we do not promise that a product is error-free, or that it will suit your project.
- To the fullest extent the law allows, we accept no liability for any loss, damage or cost arising from your use of our products, including indirect loss, lost profit and lost data. Our total liability for any claim is zero dollars.
- Where the law does not allow us to exclude liability, our liability is limited to what that law allows. For services, that can mean supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
- Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law, or under similar laws where you live.
6. Ending your use
- You can stop using a product at any time. Follow the steps in its schedule, then uninstall it.
- We may suspend or end your licence if you break these terms.
- Sections 1, 2, 5 and 7 continue to apply after your use ends.
7. Disputes
Please contact us first at hello@hakase.studio. We will work with you to resolve the issue. If the dispute cannot be resolved amicably, the dispute will be decided by binding arbitration before one arbitrator, seated in New South Wales, Australia, under the Commercial Arbitration Act 2010 (NSW). The arbitrator’s decision is final and binding on both of us.
8. Changes to these terms
We reserve the right to change these terms at any time, and notice will be given by updating these terms on this page. Your continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of any updated terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Australia.
Schedule 1: Tsumugi
Tsumugi is a development tool for writing, testing and managing various components of GameMaker games. It runs as an extension in VS Code and compatible editors. Support for other game engines is planned. Its licence is in the LICENSE file and may change with time.
1. Your licence
- A licence gives you a personal right to use Tsumugi. You cannot transfer this to anyone else.
- A licence works on one computer at a time. To move it, remove it from the first computer (Tsumugi: Licence Status, then Remove from This Computer), then activate it on the other.
- Tsumugi checks your licence with our service, so the Story Writer needs an internet connection.
- You are responsible for handling your licence key and keeping it private.
2. Trial and free features
- The Story Writer has one free trial per computer.
- These features are free: editing
.yarnfiles as text, Problems, spelling, the Needs list, GML and project file checks, the story check, and the pre-push hook. We may change which features are free at any time. - After the trial, the Story Writer needs a licence.
3. Buying, payment and renewals
- Creem is the seller of your licence, as merchant of record. We supply Tsumugi. Creem handles payment, chargebacks and refund decisions under its buyer terms and the product terms for Tsumugi.
- If you have a problem with your purchase, contact us first at hello@tsumugi.games.
- Prices and taxes are shown at checkout by Creem.
- Purchases are not refundable, except where the Australian Consumer Law or similar laws require otherwise.
- 14-day withdrawal. Buyers in some countries, including EU and UK countries, may have a 14-day right to withdraw from a digital purchase. By buying a licence, you agree to give up that right, to the extent the law allows, and you ask us to start supplying Tsumugi straight away.
- You can cancel a subscription at any time through Creem. Your licence remains active until the end of the billing period you have paid for.
4. Updates
- Tsumugi may update itself automatically.
- Old versions may stop functioning at any time.
5. What you must not do
- Reverse engineer, decompile or modify Tsumugi.
- Bypass, disable or interfere with licence checks, or with the encryption of the Story Writer.
- Make or share a copy of Tsumugi that skips these checks.
- Share, sell, rent or give away a licence key, a licence pass, or a copy of Tsumugi.
6. Your game project
- Tsumugi reads and writes the files in your game project, as performed by you. We recommend you use version control.
